Celtic v Atletico Madrid (Match Stats)

Celtic 2

xG 0.89

(Kyogo 4 and Palma 28)

Atletico Madrid 2

xG 2.09

(Griezmann 25 and Morata 53)

Many would argue that this was Celtic's best performance and I would agree however from an xPts measure it was Celtic's worst with only 0.24 xPts. This is lower than away to Feyenoord (0.28) and home to Lazio (1.68). The penalty having a big impact on that as the penalty and rebound having 1.5 xG in total. Take them out Celtic would have 1.12 xPts.

Celtic's xPts coming from only 0.89 xG but Celtic took their chances well with 1.34 Post Shot xG. In fact Celtic's xG without Kyogo's goal was only 0.3.

Celtic had only 6 shots in the game to Atletico's 15.

Celtic leading the way on xG during the first quarter and also having the best of the xG in the last quarter.

Notable players for passes were Johnston 95 (up from 65 v Lazio), O'Riley 57 (up from 45 v Lazio) and Kyogo 16 (up from 9 v Lazio). Kyogo's 16 passes were the most passes he has made this season out with the Ross County game.

Griezmann made an incredible 66 passes with 88% accuracy.

Celtic lined up with;

  • Hart

  • Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales and Taylor

  • O'Riley, McGregor and Hatate

  • Maeda, Kyogo and Palma

Celtic played the same starting line up for the third game in a row.

Hatate's injury may hinder the opportunity to have a line up for the fourth time in a row against Hibernian on Saturday. Something that Ange never managed during his time at the club.

Celtic only used 3 subs in this game with Bernardo, Phillips and Forrest coming on for Hatate, Palma and Kyogo.

Unused subs were Bain, Morrison, Ralston, Lagerbielke, Turnbull, Iwata, Yang, Oh and Mikey Johnston. Morrison, Lagerbielker and Mikey Johnston all added to the squad from last Sunday against Hearts.

Best performers in this game for xG were Kyogo 0.61 and Forrest 0.14 and for xA it was O'Riley 0.52 and Taylor 0.09.

Top goal contributor combined was Kyogo 0.63.

Top rated players were O'Riley 8.0, Maeda 7.7 and Kyogo & Palma on 7.5. Hart was next on 7.3. Lowest rated were Taylor 6.1, Johnston 6.2 and Carter-Vickers 6.8.
