Livingston v Celtic (Match Stats)

Updated: Oct 1, 2023

Livingston 0 xG 1.01 Celtic 3 xG 2.31 Sent off - Hart 28 minutes.

Livingston actually had more shots at goal in this game than Celtic with their 15 shots to Celtic's 14.

But Celtic scored with their penalty, from O'Riley's 0.37 chance and from Maeda's 0.10 chance in injury time. O'Riley's goal came on the back of Maeda's miss from a 0.63 chance.

If you take out Celtic's penalty and 2nd goal (two attempts) then Celtic's xG was only 0.52. Which isn't that great and doesn't reflect the 3-0 scoreline however once you take into account Celtic only had 10 men from 28 minutes it was a respectable performance.

First half NPxG was 0.32 to 0.15 to Livingston.

54% possession in the game for Celtic was the lowest (outside of the Rangers game) that Celtic have had this season but this was to be expected with 10 men.

Taylor had the most passes with 84 with Lagebielke next on 63. Hatate had the most of the midfielders (despite not playing 90 minutes) with 60.

Hatate received 0.78 passes per minute and that was the most of any player on the pitch. Taylor was the closest to him on 0.67 per minute. For comparison in midfield O'Riley was 0.46 and McGregor 0.43. This probably gives a good view of Hatate being in position to receive a pass throughout the game.

Although his accuracy was a lot lower than his teammates with Hatate on 73%, McGregor on 87% and O'Riley on 91%.

Celtic lined up with;

  • Hart

  • Johnston, Lagerbielke, Scales and Taylor

  • O'Riley, McGregor and Hatate

  • Forrest, Kyogo and Maeda

One change from the midweek with Forrest coming in for Palma.

Phillips missed the game through injury again and Carter-Vickers, Nawrocki, Welsh and Abada were all out injured.

Bain came on as a sub for Forrest due to Hart's sending off and Iwata came on for Hatate with Iwata coming back in to the squad in the league for the first time since the St Johnstone game. Oh came on as a sub for the 4th game in a row. Celtic only used the 3 subs.

Unused subs were Ralston, Turnbull, Holm, Bernardo, Palma and Yang. Joe Morrison (goalkeeper) and Mikey Johnston the two to miss out from Wednesday's squad.

Best performers in this game for xG were Maeda 1.05, Hatate 0.8 and O'Riley 0.52. Best for xA for Celtic were Kyogo 0.47, Taylor 0.17 and O'Riley 0.12. Top goal contributor combined was Maeda with 1.07 combined. Top rated players (FotMob and WhoScored combined) were Maeda 9.0, O'Riley 8.6 and Hatate 7.8. Lowest rated players were unsurprinsingly Hart 5.7, Forrest 6.4 and Kyogo 6.9.
